How to Build 3D Christmas Trees

I first must admit this is not my idea. I found this idea on http://www.planetchristmas.com/Build3DTrees.htm and modified the idea slightly.

Materials Needed for one tree:

  • 3 foot tall metal art easel stand.
  • 1 to 3 packages of 100 mini lights in your desired color.
  • About 50 zip ties.

Step 1

When purchasing the easel stand at a craft store in the floral section you will notice that one of the legs is shorter. I choose to make all the legs the same length 35 inches. I then cut the easels with a bolt cutter.

Step 2

I started attaching lights at the bottom of the display making sure I had the male end of the Christmas lights near the bottom. I started about 3 to 4 inches from the bottom of the easel. I used a zip tie every time I came to a leg of the easel.

Step 3

Continue wrapping and using zip ties all the way to the top. My layers are eye balled but are about 2 inches apart.

Step 4

Cut off all of the excess tails to the zip ties, and plug in the tree to verify that all the bulbs work. These trees can be stacked carefully over one another in stacks 3 to 4 high. If you desire you can add up to 2 more strands of lights for a total of 3. I choose to put only one strand of lights on to save on money and because I thought this looked good.
